Medical Transcription and Coding


Medical Transcription is a growing field that can provide steady employment while working at home or at a medical facility. The goal of this program is to prepare students for entry-level employment as a Medical Transcriptionist. The courses will provide students with the basic knowledge, understanding, and skills required to transcribe healthcare dictation and prepare patient care documents with accuracy, clarity, consistency, and timeliness, while applying the principles of professional and ethical conduct.

Medical transcriptionists and coders transcribe physician-dictated material that becomes a permanent part of the patient's medical record. The medical transcription and coders are an important part of the allied health team. This program will include training such as medical terminology, pharmacology, anatomy, laboratory procedures; as well as grammar, keyboarding, transcribing, coding, and insurance. Important skills required in medical transcription include, hand-eye coordination, hearing acuity, and keyboarding skills.
